The destination destination.
July 2008.
<<< Hero is not an appropriate word to bestow upon an
athlete, particularly while your own country is at war. Still, during
the Olympics, some people become bigger than themselves.
These names live on to this day. Jim Thorpe. Jesse Owens.
Muhammad Ali. Kerri Strug?
In 1992, the U.S contributed some names to the elite group of
gold winners: Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Oscar De
La Hoya are a couple names that might ring a bell.
Oh, and there were a couple guys on the Dream Team.
By definition, these Olympians were world class and as such
they earned a world class stage.
Somebodyisfromhere.com toured the 1992 Olympic facilities in
Barcelona. Barcelona is Spain's second largest city after
Madrid.
Barcelona, a genuine city on the sea, is the capital of the part
of country known as Catalonia.
With the Olympics, comes certain architectural obligations.
First, to respect the history of the games. Second, to promote
the future of a more harmonious world.
The Olympic area is located in the Montjuic part of the town
easily accessed by a tram that takes you above the city.
Somebodyisfromhere.com found the section to be empty for the
most part with '92's venues still on display.
The Olympic Stadium has a classic mostly sand colored
architectural design with an obligatory column here and there.
The Arena however goes in the opposite direction. With nothing
behind it and a smooth roof situation it could easily be a UFO, a
fitting host for the other worldly Dream Team.
This summer there surely be some names etched into our
memory for years to come (update: Somebodyisfromhere.com
is fascinated with Usain Bolt) and they will perform in venues
that will probably last longer than their fame.
Looking Back at the '92 Games.

With new content weekly, Somebodyisfromhere.com takes a look at travel albeit from the perspective of somebody who probably watched a little too much TV as a kid (or yesterday). The site doubles as a venue in which you can share stories or pictures from your vacations because, let's face it, your friends are sick of hearing about it.
