The destination destination.
An Expat on Thanksgiving.
<<< To this point in his life Somebodyisfromhere.com has been on Earth for 25
Thanksgivings. He has spent 24 Stateside with his family. For the most part, these festivities
improve with both maturity and additions to the family. Like a mob hit proving one's worth to
the organization, holidays initiate girlfriends, fiancés, and wives to the family. All have
performed admirably.
It's with that reasoning that Somebodyisfromhere.com likes holidays. His immediate family all
started in one place but have calculatedly spread like a cancer throughout the Northeast
(and whatever Washington DC is). In other words, holidays are something to be counted on.
But like tasting eel, spending a holiday, an American holiday, abroad is something that
should be done once, if only once.

Somebodyisfromhere.com Raises the Steaks.
<<< Most outsiders come to Philadelphia and try a cheesesteak. Just ask John Kerry how that
worked for him.
You see, in Philadelphia, you don't call it a Philadelphia Steak Sandwich. It's just a cheesesteak.
Elsewhere, they're slowly catching on though, be sure, they still call them Philadelphia steaks, as
if to take credit if it goes well, but if it doesn't - - well it's Philadelphia's fault.
It's said that Italians don't eat at the Olive Garden and Irish don't like instant potatoes, but I'll be
darned if I, from a Philadelphia suburb, don't wander from city to city and order a Philly steak.
Perhaps, eating one in a different timezone is like reading your own Instant Messenger profile, if
you look close enough, maybe, just maybe, you'll learn how the rest of the world sees you.
So like Johnny Depp's Character in Once Upon a Time In Mexico, I go from city to city ordering
the same meal.

Miscellaneous Travel
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With new content weekly, Somebodyisfromhere.com takes a look at travel albeit from the perspective of somebody who probably watched a little too much TV as a kid (or yesterday). The site doubles as a venue in which you can share stories or pictures from your vacations because, let's face it, your friends are sick of hearing about it.

The Very Different Student Hangover.
<<< It's nearing the time when college students who have spent the semester abroad start trickling
home. Many of which will have the hangover.
This hangover, however is not alcohol induced. It came from three and a half months the students
spent having the time of their lives.
The results of this hangover are similar to a normal one. There’s a lot of time spent piecing
together exactly what occurred. There is the talking to the people you were with trying to make sure
your memories are similar. You can try to distract yourself with other things, but no matter what you
can’t stop thinking about it.

Words Schmerds.
>>> Somebodyisfromhere.com started with
the dweebish philosophy:
Somebodyisfromhere.com has always lived by two simple rules.
First, experience as much of the world as possible. Second, never
under any circumstance, end a sentence with a preposition.
Luckily, with the internet, somebodyisfromhere.com has found a
weekly venue to accommodate these principles and, as always,
he welcomes others to do the same.
So it might be hard to imagine that Somebodyisfromhere.com doesn't consult The Oxford English Dictionary's press releases when
determining what kind of conversational travel stories to write.
Still, it caught Somebodyisfromhere.com's attention when the word "staycation" was a finalist for word of the year.

Weird Town Names.
Original draft appeared in the Somebodyisfromhere.com blog.
<<< So Somebodyisfromhere.com, as a travel writer, always keeps his eyes open. Weird names
are intriguing to him (to an extent). We've all heard of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico for example.
At one point, he considered, and he still might, write about towns with the same name as beer (see:
Corona, Ca).
Recently, Somebodyisfromhere.com came across Ben Franklin, Texas so he decided to look it up.
Somebodyisfromhere.com is from the Philadelphia area so he sees his share of Franklin around town.
Sure he's only the 2nd most popular Ben in Pennsylvania right now (see super bowl quarterbacks). But,
he seems to be a good guy to name a town after what with being a founding father and all that. Texas is
a weird choice, but what the hell, right?

<<< Listen to the national media and you'll hear that the fans in Philadelphia are a
vicious lot. Apparently, Santa Claus is still sending out press releases about how he was
wronged by snow balls. You won't hear them talk about Pat Burrell, though.
Burrell, who has returned Citizen's Bank Park three times in the last week, has been the
recipient of some awe inspiring adulation. On Friday(April 3rd), the Phillies showed class
by airing clips of Burrell's career in Philly before an exhibition game. On Saturday(4th),
before another exhibition game, Burrell hit a home run off of one of the city's most
popular athletes in Cole Hamels and instead of being disappointed in the pitcher known
as Hollywood, they cheered the guy in the opposing uniform. On Wednesday (8th) he
stopped back to pick up his ring and received yet another deafening ovation.

The Ballad of Mr. Somebodyisformhere.com.

<<< Somebodyisfromhere.com's father may have been a
white collar professional whose favorite music came from far off
lands like Venice, but looking back on it, there was a tidy localness
about him.
He was born in Camden, NJ where he remained until he went to
college at LaSalle University across the bridge in Philadelphia. Later
he returned to Camden to get a law degree from Rutgers. He met
his wife, married, and moved into an apartment in Camden. They
moved out of that apartment with their first child, a boy, and moved
to a town named Lindenwold in Camden County where they had
three more boys and remained for three more decades.
This is what Somebodyisfromhere.com thought as he flew to Seattle
to say his final goodbye.

>>> Somebodyisfromhere.com was recently going through his archives. Not the online kind. No, the kind
that sits in shoe boxes underneath beds at the house in which you grew up. While, Sombodyisfromhere.com
always considered this his first travel story. He was wrong. He unearthed the story found below. Perhaps not up
to the standards that you the reader may be used to with this site, it is pretty good in a Are You Smarter than a
5th Grader? kind of way. Well, Actually, Somebodyisfromhere.com has never seen that show. For what it's
worth, he was 11 when he wrote this.
