Wrigley Field:  A Photo Journal
Wrigley Field is where scenes in Ferris Bueller, The
Break Up
, and, umm, Rookie of the Year were shot.
The Cubs, who haven't won a World Series since 1907
have more wins in theaters than on the field.
Somebodyisfromhere.com doesn't know who he is
anymore. He doesn't like to think he idolizes
people. Still, he has written articles about the
Phillies in
Philadelphia, Florida, Washington, and
now
Chicago not to mention he has partial partial
season tickets
(he's sharing). On the other hand,
they are
World F'n Champs, they're currently in
first place, and with every page he creates about
the Phillies, there's a chance a Mets fan opens it
up by mistake and hates
himself just a little bit
more. In the end, that's really what it
's all about.
A statue of Harry Caray. It's an exhausted thing to say a sport was better
in the old days. It usually was just...different. Sure, "the good ol' days"
were unique, but, steroids aside, every era proves compelling in its own
way. In fact, in Somebodyisfromhere.com's case, his team, the Phillies may
have literally never been any better than they are today. The exception,
Somebodyisfromhere.com thinks, may be with the announcers. It seems
the golden age may be over.
Carey (died in 1998), Jack Buck (2002),
Harry Kalas (2009) are starting to be replaced.

Today (and maybe Somebodyisfromhere.com is flat out wrong) it seems
like it might be harder for people like this, institutions really, to exist. The
media has become more diluted. Meanwhile, successful people, like Joe
Buck, move on to other, often national, opportunities.

Somebodyisfromhere.com grew up with Harry Kalas. As a kid,
Somebodyisfromhere.com fell asleep listening to Kalas on the radio. Kalas
eventually went on to symbolize Somebodyisfromhere.com's youth and his
comfort zone. This feeling wasn't unique to Kalas, either. Here's an
article
about Herb Score
(2008), a former Indians broadcaster, that sums up the
feeling well.

Somebodyisfromhere.com's immediate family has had some
medical
issues
over the past couple of years, so he knows it's always important to
keep the deaths of strangers in perspective. Still, it doesn't stop him from
wondering how kids will fall asleep in the future.
Wrigley Field, the second oldest field behind Fenway,
has been around since 1914. They added vine in
1937 and lights in just 1998.
