Somebodyisfromhere.com wonders whether it would be mortifying if he lived in the town of Embarrass. By the looks of it, though, it seems like they might have other things on their minds.
Embarrass is a town in Minnesota with a population of just about 600 folks. It’s located in the Northeast part of the state.
Where did the name come from?
Embarrass was derived from the French word embarras, based on its meaning of “to hinder with obstacles or difficulties”. It was given this name by the French fur traders who were some of the first Europeans to visit the area, and who found the narrow, shallow river very difficult to navigate, and named the river “Embarras.”
In fairness, that’s actually the correct meaning of the word how we use it.
1. To cause to feel self-conscious or ill at ease; disconcert: Meeting adults embarrassed the shy child.
In terms of difficulties, however, it seems that they didn’t know the half of it.
With an average annual temperature of 34.5 °F (1.4 °C), Embarrass is the coldest place in Minnesota. In January 2005, Embarrass had a near-record low temperature of −54 °F (−48 °C). The unofficial record low temperature is −64 °F (−53 °C), which was reached on February 1996.
It was 33 F this morning where Somebodyisfromhere.com. There was no snow. His windows did not have frost. It was still, officially, the worst.
